Instructions

The Waistband

Foundation Chain

ch 11

Row 1

dc into 3rd ch space from hook, dc in each st until EOR, ch 2, turn

Row 2

dc blo in each st until EOR, dc into the turning chain, ch 2, turn

Row 3+

Repeat Row 2 until waistband is desired width.

Last Row

sl st blo each st of the previous row with each st of the foundation chain.

Note: The waistband must stretch to fit around the widest part of your hips/butt to ensure you can slip the skirt on. If the waistband ends up too big on your hips (or waist, if you want a high-waisted skirt), you can sew elastic thread on the inside of your waistband.

The Skirt

Row 1 — Foundation Row

sl st into waistband, ch 1 + sc into same space, sc into open spaces along bottom of waistband, sl st into the first sc to complete the round.

Note 1: Make sure your total number of scs is a multiple of 10 — adjust your spacing accordingly.

Note 2: Use your best discretion when choosing spaces to sc into.

Row 2

ch 2 + turn (counts as first dc), dc flo into the next st, dc flo, dc flo + dc blo (mark this st) into the same st, 4 dc blo, 4 dc blo, dc blo (mark st) + dc flo into the same st, dc flo in the next 3 sts

Repeat until EOR: [ dc flo in the next 3 sts, dc flo + dc blo (mark st) into the same st, 4 dc blo, 4 dc blo, dc blo (mark st) + dc flo into the same st, dc flo in the next 3 sts ]

sl st into the ch 2 space

Row 3

ch 2 + turn (counts as first dc), dc into next st, dc, dc, 2 dc into marked st (mark the 2nd st), dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc into marked st (mark 1st st), dc in the next 4 sts

Repeat until EOR: [ dc in the next 4 sts, 2 dc (mark 2nd st), dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc (mark 1st st), dc in the next 4 sts ]

sl st into the ch 2 space

Row 4

ch 2 + turn (counts as first dc), dc into next st, dc, dc, dc, 2 dc (mark 2nd st), dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc (mark 1st st), dc in the next 5 sts

Repeat until EOR: [ dc in the next 5 sts, 2 dc (mark 2nd st), dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc (mark 1st st), dc in the next 5 sts ]

sl st into the ch 2 space

Row 5

ch 2 + turn (counts as first dc), dc in each st until EOR, sl st into the ch 2 space

Row 6+

Repeat Row 5 until skirt covers at least 25% of your bum.

Row "9"

The "9" is in quotes because you may be on a different row count at this point.

Divide the bottom of your skirt into two halves by counting your total sts (n) and marking the first st and the middle-most st (n/2).

dc in the first half of sts (from 1 to n/2), tc in the second half of sts (n/2 to n), sl st to join.

Row "10"

Repeat Row "9" until the skirt is the desired length.

Steam Blocking (optional)

Lay your piece flat, arrange the pleats to your liking, steam each fold. Repeat on the other side.
